The name, OASIS, contains the expression of the Institute’s mission: the study and practice of Open Autopoietic Social Intelligence Synthesis.
The principal topics of research and application development comprise topics within Synthetic Intelligence, Human-Machine Interaction, and Psychosocioeconomic Dynamics (PSED). These provide the foundational models, algorithms and functions for developing, managing and controlling, in particular, the OASIS System for Open Autopoetic Social Intelligence Synthesis and the SELDON Network.
There is a faculty comprised of Fellows, Mentors, Researchers and Visitors. There is an organizational affiliation with one or multiple universities and other institutes but the institute is independent from any other institution. (The mission and activities are consistent and similar to some of the original motivations and founding ideas of the Institute for Advanced Study, Perimeter, Kavli, and a few others, as well as to the Institute for Innovative Study.)
OASIS Institute is focused upon long-term collaborative research and development. There are several programs and projects in which Oasis Institute is centrally active. There are four Institute Programs in which OASIS is the primary program lead. These are:
